2015 BEAUFORT GYRE DEPLOYMENT
Deployment locations: OB-13: 78.3 N/ 141 W/ 28 Sept 2015 and OB-14: 79.5 N /148.9 W/ 1 October 2015
They were deployed in the Beaufort Sea on CCGS Louis St. Laurent expedition, Kugluktuk- Kugluktuk, Canada, by John ‘Wes’ Halfacre (Purdue U.). As in previous years, the ship’s crane was used to remove the buoy cylinder from the crate, attach the float collar and mast. Buoy testing lasted 24h to conserve power as, in this case, the Lithium batteries were used; the solar panels are installed only once the O-Buoy is in the ice.
